The 1976 Formula One season was the 30th season of FIA Formula One motor racing. It featured the 1976 World Championship of Drivers and the 1976 International Cup for Formula 1 Manufacturers. The season was a sixteen race series that commenced on 25 January and ended on 24 October. Two non-championship races were also held.

Det var underbart att höra dessa bilar köra runt på Sveriges gamla F1 bana utan några som helst ljudrestriktioner. F3-EM körs på banan och Ronnie Peterson kom till Anderstorp med sin March 721X F1:a och provade banan. I internationella bilförbundet (FISA) tas senare beslutet att tilldela Anderstorp Sveriges första Formel 1-tävling att köras påföljande år. Anderstorp The track was built on marshlands in 1968 and became an extremely popular venue in the 1970s, just as Swede Ronnie Peterson was at the height of his career. It has a long straight (called Flight Straight, which was also used as a 980 metres (3,220 ft) aircraft runway (ICAO: ESMP)), as well as several banked corners, making car setup an engineering compromise.

The circuit is also noteworthy because it was the site of the first and only win of two unconventional F1 cars: the six-wheeled Tyrrell P34 car in 1976 and the infamous Brabham 'fan car' in 1978.
